In 2018, Summer Walker made her debut with her mixtape Last Day of Summer, and her breakout single “Girls Need Love” became an instant fan favorite due to its candid and relatable lyrics about needing affection, love, and sex. To celebrate the project's fifth anniversary and to thank her fans, the singer-songwriter announced on social media the project's album cover—an old tweet from Walker saying, “text ur man ‘I just need some d—k with no complications’ and tweet me his reply lol,” and tagged her collaborators. Girls Need Love (Girls Mix) features five different versions of the hit track, including the OG song and an acoustic version backed with a live band, as well as a video exclusive to Apple Music. No, the 2019 Drake remix is not on there. Still, the EP's first three entries feature guest verses from a trio of leading women within R&B: Victoria Monét, Tyla, and Tink, who each laid down vocals and added their unique personalities to the track while reminding everyone that girls need love too.
